Artisan Wednesday Wow ~ Undefined: Hand-Carved Hockey

Welcome back again! Today we get to welcome you to our first Artisan Wednesday Wow post!  Each Wednesday, the Artisan Design Team members will share a project with you.  It’s been a fun challenge so far and I’m excited to share my first project with you and to see what all of the other girls have come up with!

You may be starting here with me, but whether you are starting here or have come from Mercedes, I hope you’ll hop along through all of the girls pages to see what they have to share with you.  Just click the ‘next’ button at the bottom of the page to get to Becky’s blog!

I decided to do my first project with the new Undefined Kit.  It’s a new stamp carving kit that was released at convention in July.  At first I was intimidated and wasn’t sure what I could come up with that was worthy of making my own stamp (cuz I was really just scared to try it!).  Then, I asked myself what my customers most often ask for, what would THEY want to see?! .. that was really the only question I needed to ask myself and I knew my answer right away.. a HOCKEY stamp! It is by far the most requested stamp among the people who craft with me! We just got our Jets back a season or so ago and here in Canada, hockey is a huge sport!  So, Ryan helped me find a hockey silhouette and I set to work!

UPDATE: I completely forgot to add a tip for you: to find a hockey silhouette (I am not an artist when it comes to drawing!), we googled ‘hockey silhouette’ (my carving skills were about to be put to the test for the first time so I did NOT want the detail of a hockey player in full detail.  Once we found what seemed like one of the least detailed silhouettes that would suit the purpose of this card, I imported that image into MDS.  I knew I wanted to punch my image out with the 2.5″ circle punch so I applied a 2.5″ circle punch in MDS and filled it with the image.  I was then able to print it out, outline the silhouette in pencil and then transfer it to the rubber to be carved!  Who knew MDS could help you with your Undefined stamps too?!

Now, back to the regular post!

I wanted to do something generic as well as something to co-ordinate with the Winnipeg Jets so I created two different color schemes to share.  I started with creating a sunburst template (the same one I used for an Angry Birds card I made ~love it when I can use a template more than once, I’ll come back to share that card tomorrow probably).  Since I traced the template on both colors of cardstock, I had all the pieces to create two sunbursts, so I did just that!

You can see a little more detail of each of the cards on their own here.  I embossed my image with white powder for the Real Red/Night of Navy scheme and for the Black/Gray scheme I embossed one with white powder and one with Smoky Slate powder.  The Candy Dots make for an fun, easy add-on to embellish your projects a little!

Now that was a lot of photos to share, but I hope it gives you some ideas so that you can dig in to your undefined kit!  If you’re not into Hockey or your kids don’t play, maybe they’ve been hoping for a stamp of their sport to be released..wait no more, you can carve it for them!

Let’s go see what Becky has to share with us, I know I’m excited to see what it is!

  1. Wow!!!! That is awesome. I want one too! I have a whole lotta males who would love to get that card. Can’t wait to get my hands on that kit now…. Although I’m still not sure what I want to make.

    Stunning Alanna!

  2. You nailed it with your carved hockey silhouette! That is exactly what I need as our family is BIG into hockey. Each of your cards is fabulous and fun. Smiles, Elizabeth

  3. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your carved stamp! I am an unlikely hockey fan from Tennessee, but my son became an avid Nashville Predator fan and my daughter wound up in Madison, Wisconsin to get a masters degree. I wish SU had more hockey stamps! I bought a retired set to make my sons birthday card this past spring, Made a waterfall card and put a copy of a Preds ticket on the strip you pull, he LOVED it! I may have to try carving a hockey stamp!

  4. Wow, love this carved stamp!! My girls would love this stamp for all their hockey creations!! You have inspired me to order the kit and hopefully carve something Hockey in the future!!
