Artisan Wednesday Wow ~ Papillon Potpourri Boxed Note Card Set

Welcome back again to another week of Artisan Wednesday Wow! I know the girls will all ‘wow’ me with their projects this week, that’s for sure!  .. But, where the WOW comes in for me as I write this is the fact that it is September already!!! How did that happen so quickly?!  Where has summer vacation gone?!  I’m lucky to have my boys home until Friday and I am definitely not ready to send them back yet!  It feels like summer just started now that we finally have some hot, sunshine-y weather!  In keeping with summer things and sunshine, I decided to create with Papillon Potpourri for you today!

I saw a cute notepad holder on Pinterest (created by stamp with Frenchie) and altered the holder a little bit to suit this cute little set of notecards.  Here’s the whole set of cards and the holder.

Here is the box with all three cards and matching (lined with DSP) envelopes tucked inside.  I didn’t manage to snap a good shot of the envelopes but with the new Envelope Framelits it was easy to create cute liners to line the notecard sized envelopes.

Here are a couple of other views of the box.  In it’s cute little notecard size, it turned out to be a fun project to create!

I couldn’t decide which of these fun techniques I wanted to focus on so instead of doing three cards all the same in different color combinations I decided to incorporate the same colors over 3 techniques.  It was a fun process!

This was the one I started with and was originally going to do all three like this.  I’ll share all the details of this one and then I’ll share each of the other two cards separately as well.  To get a more subdued look with the Dictionary stamp, I stamped off first before stamping on the Crumb Cake layer.  I also added a little gold to the torn edges by dabbing a few random spots on the edges with Versamark and then dipping those areas in some Gold Embossing powder.  Once I heat set it, it gave just a little touch of gold shimmer on the edges.

Through this little window you can see the pop of Pool Party DSP when the card is closed.

I never thought I’d be a gold girl, but I’m really loving how trendy gold is in paper crafting… my friend Cathy might have a little something to do with that!   ..and polka dots, polka dots just make me happy.  I started off using the stencil from the Simply Created Banner kit but found they were too small and concentrated for this notecard sized card so I just used a dauber and versamark and created a polka dot pattern that way instead.  I see more of this card happening in my studio!

Another technique I wanted to incorporate was a shaker card.  This one also took a different turn from when I started to when it was done.  I started off with washi tape holding the layers and decided to scrap that and stick with the sewing machine.  The butterflies are sandwiched between a window sheet and vellum with a piece of DSP layered behind that.

Now that was a lot of photos to share! I hope you managed to stick it out through them all!  If you have any questions, let me know!  I’ll do my best to help out!

Update: I got carried away with my post and forgot to tell you about a great promotion that Stampin’ Up! has to offer..  this was afterall, a big part of why I decided to go with some butterfly inspiration to share with you!   From now until September 30 you can get the Butterfly Bundle of the Bitty Butterfly Punch and Papillon Potpourri at 15% off.  (clear mount is $33.92 or wood mount $38.17).  This paricular sample that Stampin’ Up! used for this promotion makes me want to stamp!  I just love this card!

  1. Oh Alanna! This is such a beautiful little card set! You made Gold really work for you. I’m still trying to figure out how to use that one, but you did an awesome job. And I love the torn edges! Very nice!

  2. Alanna, this is definitely a WOW. Not only did you create three incredible cards featuring three techniques, you made a great box to put them all in! SUPER FANTABULOUS! (that is a new word that I created just for you)
