2013 Artisan Design Team Blog Hop ~ Project 5

Welcome back to the 5th day of our Blog Hop.  It’s hard to believe that we are already half way through sharing the projects with you that we submitted for the Artisan Design Team contest.  I hope you’ve enjoyed and been inspired and that you’ve maybe even had a chance to create some of what you’ve seen here on the hop! .. it’s been a rainy long weekend here in our corner of Canada so that is just what’s up on my agenda tonight!

Today I have another card to share with you.  I wish I had more views of it to give you a better idea of how it opens but this might just be the post that lets the cat out of the bag as to how rushed/desperate I was to just get to snap at least one quick photo of each of my projects before I sent them off on that plane to Stampin’ Up!.  I normally like to ‘stage’ my projects and probably spend too much time photographing them or end up not photographing them at all knowing how long it will take me but knowing that I wouldn’t get these projects back and that I may not even see them on display boards of any kind I really wanted to at least snap one that would be able to guide me as to how to recreate my projects.  So, this is all that there is for photos of today’s card. I did create a very similar card for the swap that was held amongst all 20 finalists though, so in a future post I can share more of what the folds etc. look like on that one and I’ll explain some more detail after you see the card.

The fold featured is on this card is a Joy Fold.  The flap on the right side tucks under the doily and then both flaps open up to reveal the inside of the card.  With that it’s not a card that will stand up, so with my rushed snapshot, this one is laying down but hopefully you get the idea.  The Window framelits can be used in so many different ways than just to add a layer to your card.  They make nice fold, nice 3D embellishments, toppers for gift/treat packaging.  They really are a versatile product with the variety of sizes that they offer!  As much work as it is, I also really like the added detail of matching them up with the piercing packs to give the cut pieces extra detail! I miss this Thinking of You stamp and the Comfort Cafe DSP (both are retired but were current when I created my projects).

That doily.. I had come up with something fun to add to a card last Fall for a swap and have used it a time or two since but wanted to use it in another way on this card.  For the project last Fall, I mixed Early Espresso embossing powder with a just a bit of Pewter embossing powder.  I loved that the powder was a nice rich brown, but I wanted to add just a bit of shimmer to it.  For this card, I wanted to use the doily but it was too stark on this project so I re-colored the doily by embossing it with this mix of Early Espresso and Pewter embossing powder (I’d say it was about a 80% Early Espresso, 20% Pewter mix).  I covered the whole thing with versamark by patting it down and then coated it with the mixture of embossing powder and then heat set it.

***I’ll let you in on a little tip though.. to get anything to stick to the embossed doily is tricky (the embossed layer can crack or peel off by sticking to the adhesive).. so when I recreated this card for the Artisan swap… I stuck 4 little circles of cardstock to the doily with repositional adhesive in all the spots that I knew I would want to attach a dimensional to it for the stamped pieces of cardstock to later get attached.  Once it was coated and heat set, I was able to take off the little cardstock pieces revealing ‘clean’ doily and then the dimensionals would stick to it nicely and not just pull the embossed layer off.. I share this tip because it happened to me first! I’ll try to come back with a photo to share with you what I mean. Again, the supplies are listed below the buttons that will take you through the hop.

I hope you have fun hopping through all of our projects today!

You’re onto Becky’s blog next and I know that her and the entire team will have beautiful things to share.. and weren’t yesterday’s projects incredible!?  Or, feel free to hop backwards (my kids are good at that) and visit Mercedes’ blog next.
