I’m back today to share one of the 5 cards I submitted for the contest.  This was my first creation for the contest and I do think I’ll make 2nd one of this just to keep one for myself!  You might be arriving here from Mercedes Weber’s blog and next on the hop is Becky Cowley’s blog.  I saw all their entries at convention but can’t wait to see them up close through their posts! This card takes me back to being a little girl and playing paper dolls.  I can’t imagine how excited I’d have been to have a paper doll dress as pretty as this one with the flower trim and iridescent ice making it so fancy (or how exciting it would be to make paper doll dresses to my heart’s content)!  I had one Holiday Barbie as a kid and the feel of this dress on the card reminded me of how pretty I always thought that Barbie’s dress was!

I started with the dress. I had seen many different ways to use the flower trim on dresses and love the versatility of the flower trim. .. I really wish it was still available! I wanted the flower trim to stand out so I went simple on the top of the dress and embossed the top of the dress by covering it with versamark and then heat setting it with Iridescent Ice embossing powder so the whole top of the dress is shimmery.  The Flower Trim was easy to layer by adhering it with sticky strip.

That little bouquet is full all the way around and I ended up liking it as much as the dress!  To create the bouquet I created a ball of hot glue.  To do that, I used my siicone sheet and a hot glue gun and squeezed 2 separate dollops of hot glue onto the sheet and let them cool.  Before they cooled I had about 7-10 pieces of floral wire that were about 1.5″ held together in a cluster with a string or sticky strip wrapped around them.  While one dollop dried, I held the cluster of floral wire centered as best as I could standing straight up in the dollop of glue (these would become the stems).  Once the two halves were cool, I glued them together to form a ball.  I cut the stems with wire cutters down to the length I wanted and then wrapped the stems in linen thread until it was fully covered and then tied a bow (1/8″ taffeta ribbon would look great wrapped around it too!).   I had punched quite a few of the little  4 petal flower from the Itty Bitty Punch pack our of vanilla and brushed gold cardstock to create the bouquet.   It is made up of mostly vanilla with brushed gold flowers sprinkled in.   I applied a small basic pearl in each of the little flowers and then stuck them to the (cool/dry) ball of hot glue using a mini glue dot on each of the flowers.  Those little glue dots stuck great to the ball of hot glue (once it’s had cooled, NOT before.. I know that from experience!).    I was happy with how the little 3D bouquet turned out.  Once the layers of the dress were attached to the oval piece of Naturals Composition Specialty DSP, I pierced two little holes and ‘tied’ the bouquet onto that layer by wrapping a piece of linen thread around the stem of the bouquet (tucked right up to the bouquet part) and through the two little holes to tie a knot at the back of the DSP.  That way it wasn’t relying on any glue to hold it onto the card or in place.  

Aside from that dress and the bouquet, the rest of the card was pretty simple.  I thought the Oval Easel helped the dress to take center stage (as any bride should along with her groom)!

We have a couple of weddings this summer, maybe one Bride will get a card like this one?  I hope she’ll like it! .. it will be an opportunity to make one for me to keep as well!
