Artisan Wednesday Wow ~ MDS Valentine Canvas Tote

Welcome back to the 2nd February Edition of Artisan Wednesday Wow! Are you all ready for Valentines?!  We’ve still got some work to do in our house (Science Fair projects have been in the works here so we’ve got to finish that up before we move onto Valentines for the boys classmates!) but I did manage to get a gift made for the teachers so that I could share it with you today in time for you to create your own! MDS makes it a cinch and when I open it up to play I usually love what results.. I really need to MDS more often!

Here’s what I made for you today.. with a LITTLE help from the boys! They helped with giving the final say on the design and helped put the tags on and wrote on their own gift tags.  .. they had to have at least a hand in the project for their teachers.  We made iron on labels to put on these cute canvas bags from the craft store so that their teachers would have a reusable bag to use to collect their Valentine cards in from year to year.   Hopefully they’ll use them and hopefully it’ll solve the problem of the tattered paper bag (as cute as they are) that barely makes it through Valentines day! .. I know I’d love to have one for ME!

I used a variety of elements from the Mailbox Love Notes Digital Class to create the images in MDS.  When you are using them as an iron on, be SURE to MIRROR your images before you print them…. otherwise you’ll end up with wasted sheets of iron on transfer… I MAY just be speaking from experience! Here’s another view of each of the bags and some of the details.  Each bag has both sides decorated like the two sides you see here.

I used one of the heart border images to create an iron on transfer border for each side of the top of the bag.  I also cropped that same image to create a line to ‘sign’ on for the ‘to/from’ line.

This tag to hang on the bag was made with most of the same elements.  I just flipped the tag to a portrait orientation so that there was a little more variation in the elements of the project once it was all put together and hanging on the gift bag.  The boys each signed their tag before we layered the pieces of the tag.  I printed three tags for each one so that we could add dimension by layering pieces of the tag.

I hope you’re inspired to play with MDS and iron-on transfers… it really is a fun way to create custom projects!

Let’s go see what Becky has to share! Don’t forget to hop on all the way through to the rest of the Artisan’s projects!

  1. Ok girl, I LOOOOVE these! How sweet! their teachers are going to love them!! Very, very thoughtful.

  2. Alanna, these are adorable. It “almost” makes me wish I had little one. Sixteen year old boys do not think giving something like this to their teacher is cool, so enjoy it while you can.
